Common Symptoms of Lower Back Pain

Some common symptoms you will experience with lower back pain may include the following:

  • Dull and/or achy pain across the low back

  • Worsening pain with forward bending or attempting to stand up straight

  • Sharp pain in low back accompanied by gluteal pain

  • Numbness and tingling in the legs and or feet

  • Muscle tightness and/or spasms

Overview

Up to 80% of adults nationwide will experience low back pain at some point in their lives. 20% will develop chronic or persistent pain, and 40 percent of post-surgical patients report a return of symptoms within 2 years. Common diagnoses include herniated discs, muscle strains, sciatica, and stenosis. Accurate diagnosis is key to treating and alleviating low back pain.
